1978 Yamaha SR 500, purchased in 1980 and owned ever since.
Complete custom restoration including engine rebuilt in 1984.
Had fairly high mileage when purchased from the original owner and I put a bunch of miles on it before restoring it.
I then rode it for 6 years in Germany before I moved to the US in 1990 where it was used very little and always being stored indoors.
The restoration / conversion was quite extensive for German standards due to the strict
regulations so all parts had to be certified and came at high cost from a well known German
aftermarket supplier for high quality Chopper parts, called AME.

The conversion on this SR 500:
Front fork extension with custom Triple Tree, fork tubes, bearings etc.
Custom Handle Bars with longer brake hose etc.
Complete custom forward foot control unit for brake and shifter
Custom rear rim and spokes with wider tire and re located brake plate rod
Custom exhaust with two raised mufflers
Custom low profile seat
Custom sissy bar
Tombstone style tail light
Small, vintage 70's Honda turn signals
All these items had to be certified by the strict German TUV rules and were
entered into the German vehicle registration and title to be street legal.
The paint I did in 1984 consisted of 42 coats (on the tank) of Metal Flake Micro Glow with Candy Apple colors
and Air Brush designs.
The frame has about 31 coats of paint on it, the engine block 19 coats and the cylinder 17 coats.
The frame color fades from blue at the top down to a darker purple on the bottom.
The brake rotor is also painted with Micro Glow which changes color from the center towards the outer diameter.
The Yamaha logos were sanded off the engine side covers, left side has been chromed and the right side was engraved by a friend of mine with a Roger Dean Motive.
The motive on the tank I found in a book and is called "Skiing on Mars".
The engine has been upgraded with new factory later model stator / rotor / ignitor unit because the first two years had issues.
Factory new part installed.
Larger intake manifold mount which makes
34 instead of the German version 27 HP.
Also an extra oil line is mounted providing better lubrication to the rocker assembly.
I did, at times reach close to 100 mph with it on the Autobahn.
It was part of several custom shows in Germany and Holland besides a 2 page Magazine Feature in a German Motorcycle Magazine.
It now has a new battery and is fully operational.
Tires are old and should be replaced, couple of small drips, usual nicks and chips on paint and some wear on chrome parts.
The SR 500 was known to vibrate a lot and "shake off" parts such as turn signals, tail lights, fenders etc.
but this one has never done that.
Comes with clean AZ title, most of the original parts including seat, extra rear tire, old parts and two spare gas tanks with keys.
I do have video of it running which is too large to link into this ad so please e-mail if you wish to see it.
It is positively impossible to catch the image of the paint "in action" in photos or videos so just come and check it out in person.
Contact via E-Mail is best.
For sale after 43 years of ownership due to knee issues.
Asking cash price is $ 6500
