Position Summary:
Assist in providing a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
Responsibilities
Promotes patient safety through awareness of the environment of care and in all actions that involve patient care.
Communicates patient safety issues quickly, clearly and effectively with other staff members.
Assists in the implementation of security protocols and campus safety.
May attend the Nursing report sessions to become more familiar with patient community issues.
Makes rounds and inspections at a minimum of one time per hour to check and secure campus buildings, recreation, and other public areas.
Makes visual checks “in-person” contact with direct patient care staff throughout work hours.
Notifies supervisor of any conditions or incidents affecting staff and / or patient safety
Provides intervention and / or crowd control and direction on any situation of concern for the safety and welfare of patients, staff, visitors, and vendors.
Is familiar with all emergency and Disaster Preparedness policies.
May assist in the investigation of criminal activities involving patients and assists administration with prosecution as appropriate.
Completes security logs and incidents report in a timely manner prior to leaving shift.
Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required.
CPI, CPR / First Aid.
Valid State Driver’s License.
Peace Officer, first responder, or professional security experience and / or training preferred.
Ability to use telephones extensively; ability to relay clear written messages; ability to use computer keyboard and calculator extensively.
Ability to effectively read and write in English and process information; ability to input/retrieve information to/from computer and files.
Ability to converse with others to give, take and process information; extensive use of telephone.
Ability to hear alarms and pages.
Ability to converse with others in English to give, take and process information; extensive use of telephone.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, multi-task, coordinate projects and record/transcribe general and specific meeting minutes.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Communicate with other staff in relaying concerns and observations involving patient safety.
