*POSITION TITLE*: Sustainable Small Business Program Manager - Northern Arizona *REPORTS TO:* Director of Sustainability Initiatives *FLSA CLASSIFICATION:* Exempt *PREPARED DATE:* January 2023 *POSITION PURPOSE* This position manages all components of the Verde Valley Green Business Boot Camp program, as well as program expansion to Flagstaff, which includes coordination and oversight of all programmatic components such as business support, partnership coordination and cultivation, instructor and participant recruitment, and evaluation, measurement and improvement of the program.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* This position requires experience working with small and large local businesses and nonprofit organizations and the ability to work well with diverse groups of staff, community members, and volunteers.
This position also requires an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to work independently, use discretion and good judgment, and build cross-sector strategic collaborations in order to meet the goals of the program.
*Program Implementation and Project Management - 80%:* * Engage and recruit small business, nonprofit, municipal, and other community organizations who are looking for support in reducing their environmental impact to participate in the Green Business Boot Camp.
* Implement Local First Arizona’s Green Business Boot Camp with the collaboration of municipalities, utilities, and other sustainability organizations that offer locally owned businesses and nonprofits the support and tools to assess their use of energy, water, transportation, and materials in their facilities.
* Provide engaging educational events, digitally or in-person, for both potential participants and program partners to explain the program, how to register, and how to benefit from incentives.
* Collaborate with municipal groups, utility companies, and sustainability organizations to create incentives and aggregate resources for participating businesses that could be available upon completion of the program.
* Train local business owners and nonprofit professionals to discover how and where they could make improvements, through significant retrofits and other resource use changes, and how to measure the effectiveness of these changes through the baseline measures of the program participant’s facilities and all positive improvements on their utility costs and emissions.
* Track program participants’ progress through regular documentation and communications about program goals and performance to encourage further engagement.
Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the programs on a regular basis by tracking participant data.
Read and understand participant sustainability plans and operations for further engagement.
*Marketing, Promotion, and Funder Management - 15%* * Adopt a storytelling approach to the identification and development of success stories for Boot Camp and Green Business Members to feature in newsletters and social media, while identifying marketing partners and opportunities to share with internal PR and marketing teams.
* Ensure that all funding requirements and funder expectations are met and integrated into the design and implementation of the Local First Sustainability program goals and objectives based on the timelines for all funding provided.
* Ensure that updates to the comprehensive program curriculum, and program materials, are appropriately adapted for the Verde Valley region.
* Work with program participants to generate interest in larger long-term energy saving planning through supporting development of a comprehensive sustainability plan, leveraging Local First’s programs to create case studies for each participant to inspire more sustainability improvements.
*Local First & Sustainability Team on-going support - 5%:* * Attend weekly Sustainability Team meetings and check ins with the Director of Sustainability Initiatives for fulfillment of duties across Local First Arizona and the sustainability Team.
* Stay apprised of local and national news and events that impact sustainable initiatives and the Verde Valley community - read newsletters, updates from partners.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS* * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and study related to environmental studies * At least five years’ combined experience in the areas of environmental programs, working with businesses, managing programs, and leading teams *KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS* * Knowledge of program management principles related to businesses and nonprofits * Demonstrated ability to create program materials and curriculum independently based upon mastery of subject matter.
* Excellent organization and planning skills, related to short-term funding objectives and larger strategic plans, as well as record keeping skills to ensure strong program continuity * Ability to work independently and with team members, using good judgment and discretion.
* Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations * Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing * Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers * Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job * Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects at a time while meeting a variety of deadlines * Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions * Proficient in Google Drive/Apps, Wrike, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint * Willing to travel occasionally for community projects/events as needed.
