Job Title: General Manager Location: Dewey, Arizona Job Type: Part-time to Full-time Hours: Variable, including weekends and holidays Job Summary: As the General Manager at Mortimer Farms, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the overall operations and strategic direction of our farm.
Located in Dewey, Arizona, Mortimer Farms is a family-owned real working farm that offers a wide range of activities, including seasonal events, festivals, Market & Deli, farm-to-table food, concessions, weddings, private events, Farm Park, Farmer's Market attendance, field trips, and more.
Our mission is "connecting your family to your food" to provide an educational and enjoyable experience for our visitors while promoting sustainable farming practices and supporting the local community.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategy: - Develop and execute the farm's strategic plan in alignment with the owners' vision and goals.
- Provide strong leadership to department heads, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Continuously assess market trends and industry developments to identify growth opportunities.
Financial Management: - Develop and manage budgets, financial forecasts, and performance metrics to achieve financial goals.
- Monitor expenses, revenue, and cost control measures to maximize profitability.
- Collaborate on pricing strategies and sales initiatives to drive revenue growth.
Partnerships and Promotion: - Engage with the local community and cultivate partnerships with schools, organizations, and businesses to promote the farm's offerings.
- Learn from customer feedback and reviews to enhance the visitor experience, customer service, and our offerings.
Compliance and Safety: - Ensure that all farm operations adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, including safety and food safety standards.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols for employees, visitors, and farm activities.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for compliance purposes.
Management: - Recruit, train, and supervise department heads, fostering a collaborative and motivated team.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support professional development.
- Address employee concerns and maintain a positive workplace culture.
Customer Experience: - Uphold the farm's commitment to providing an exceptional visitor experience and quality products.
- Monitor and enhance customer service standards and resolve customer issues and concerns – escalate when needed.
- Develop and implement strategies to continuously improve the visitor experience.
Market & Deli Manager, Kitchen Manager, Culinary Director, Festival Coordinator, Private Events Manager, Customer Service, Animal Chore Team, etc.
oversight: - Oversee the day-to-day operations of each department, ensuring adherence to standards and protocols.
- Provide guidance and support to department managers, facilitating collaboration and teamwork.
- Conduct audits and fill out performance evaluation scorecards for each department, holding managers accountable for corrections.
Performance Evaluation and Employee Development: - Implement and oversee performance evaluation processes for all departments.
- Utilize the provided performance review template to assess manager performance.
- Provide constructive feedback and support professional development and growth.
- Identify training needs and encourage career aspirations within the farm's vision.
Maintenance of Clover/Tripleseat/Toast: - Ensure that systems are updated, used correctly, and accurate.
- Facilitate training and support for staff on system usage.
Monthly Management Meetings, Training, and Attendance at Webinars: - Coordinate and conduct regular meetings and training sessions for department managers.
- Attend relevant webinars to stay informed about industry trends and best practices.
Ordering and Inventory Control: - Monitor and oversee the ordering process, ensuring accuracy and adherence to inventory levels.
- Maintain control over waste/spoiling and optimize order quantities for efficiency.
Organization and Cleanliness: - Enforce cleanliness standards and ensure organization in all areas of the farm.
- Conduct regular inspections to uphold cleanliness and organization standards.
Protocol Adherence: - Ensure compliance with all protocols and procedures, including labor percentage, admissions, cash handling, emergency services, and tip rules.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, Management, or related field.
Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience.
- Strong leadership, strategic planning, and organizational skills.
- Financial acumen and budget management experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for agriculture, community engagement, and farming.
Probation Period: 90 days after the start of employment.
Annual Review: An annual performance review will take place to assess performance and set goals for the following year.
