This position is between 8 and 15 hours per week, including Saturdays, with the possibility of additional hours.

Under the supervision of the Library Supervisor and the Youth Services Supervisor, the Part-Time Library Aide is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patrons and staff who come from various backgrounds and ages, including underserved and marginalized communities.
Public services such as helping patrons troubleshoot their android and iOS devices, public printers, and computers with patience and empathy are the primary functions of this position.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable interacting with all types of people and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.

TASKS: -Provide direct face-to-face and over-the-phone public service with enthusiasm, empathy, patience, and kindness.
-Help library users find, identify, select, and obtain information.
Connect patrons with a variety of resources, library materials, and programs.
-Educate library patrons to help them use electronic resources, including the library’s webpage, catalog, and online -Troubleshoot basic computer, printer, and copy machine issues and help people navigate technology such as Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Gmail, shared software, and related productivity applications.
-Help patrons with their Samsung, Android, iOS, and Apple devices.
-Collection management such as pulling holds, shelving, including low-to-the-ground shelving, shelf reading, discarding materials, and processing problem items.
-Clean and tidy the public spaces and help keep workspaces clean.
-Other duties as assigned.

-Ability to learn from mistakes.
-Knowledge of alphabetical order and Dewey Decimal System.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties.
This classification involves work in a quiet library setting that requires physical effort.
This classification requires pushing heavy book carts and loaded dollies with weights as high as 100 pounds.
It also requires bending, stooping, rotating wrists, reaching and climbing on ladders; lifting stacks of books, boxes of books, equipment, supplies, tables, chairs and other library materials.
Ability to use hands and wrists to open, close and handle small items in a repetitive manner, such as DVD and CD cases.
Ability to read small print on book spines for re-shelving purposes.
Must have hearing and speaking ability sufficient to clearly and concisely communicate in person and over the telephone.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School equivalency, demonstrated interpersonal skills, aptitude for detailed work, and the ability to multi-task.
Two years of customer service-related experience desired.
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
