Mentor Teacher
Hiring Range: Dependent Upon Experience

Under the supervision of the Director, the incumbent provides direction, management and supervision of an early childhood classroom for Children ages 3 through 5.
Implements age-appropriate curriculum that promotes the social, physical and cognitive development of each child.
Mentors Early Childhood Education college students working in the classroom.
Creates a nurturing classroom atmosphere where adults are attuned to the needs of children and secure/trusting relationships are formed between teachers and children.
Promotes early learning by providing a developmentally appropriate and stimulating environment where exploration, investigation, and discovery are encouraged and children's sense of confidence is supported.
- Trains and supervises teaching staff, student interns, classroom observers and volunteers; Meets with student interns regularly, providing them with training and opportunities to maximize their learning objectives - Models best practices and implements National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Code of Ethics - Develops partnerships with parents by inviting input, engaging in daily communication, providing classroom newsletters, conducting parent-teacher -conferences, and maintaining confidentiality - Ensures all aspects of the program comply with state licensing and accreditation standards - Meets regularly and works collaboratively with entire program staff - Other realted duties as assigned such as conducting workshops and outreach Please attach two Professional Letters of Reference to submit along with your application materials.
Minimum Expectations & Requirements -Associates degree in early childhood education, child development or a closely-related field from an accredited college or university - Three years experience working in a classroom with children 5 and under - Two years experience mentoring/leading adults in a children's program - Knowledge of state licensing regulations & reporting requirements and NAEYC accreditation standards - Experience implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes development across the domains - Experience creating a positive classroom learning environment that supports individual learning styles - Experience with assessments and portfolio development - Excellent oral and written communication skills - Skills in effective supervisory practices and principles - Ability to work effectively with children, college students, parents, faculty, staff and community members - Possession of a valid Fingerprint Clearance card, or ability to obtain - Current infant/child CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain - Proof of negative TB test, or ability to obtain - Teachers required to repetitively lift up to 25-30 pounds on a daily basis Preferred Skills & Abilities - Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development or related field - Experience mentoring and supervising college students, preferably in a laboratory school setting - Experience working with parent groups and/or leading parenting workshops - Passion for working with infants/toddlers using respect-based methodology - Group facilitation and training skills - Ability to work collaboratively and to promote "community" in the classroom, and in the program - Computer knowledge and competence - Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment Essential Functions To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
